Pediatric Care

Pediatric CarePediatric therapy is still a relatively new field. In the 1940s, when the polio epidemic struck so many children, physical therapists began treatments using braces and stretching exercises. Today, pediatric therapy is a full-scale specialty where children from birth to adolescence maximize their functional potential. Illnesses and conditions that benefit from physical, occupational and speech/language pathology include:

  • Prenatal Drug Exposure
  • Developmental Delays
  • Speech/Language Disorders
  • Hearing Disorders
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Neuromuscular Disorders
  • Autism
  • Down Syndrome
  • Cleft Palate
  • Closed Head Injuries
  • Spina Bifida
  • Congenital Deformities
  • Premature or Traumatic Birth
  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
  • Gait/Walking Problems
  • Failure to Thrive

These are just some of the conditions/disabilities we help children conquer. We take a team approach to pediatric rehabilitation, and we actively solicit parent/caregiver involvement.

In addition, we design home programs for each child according to their individual needs. These may include creative playing activities, special exercises and tips on positioning and handling. Developmental delay occurs when a child does not reach developmental milestones at the expected age. Delays can be in motor, social, behavioral, self-help/self-care, language or thinking skills.  Although there is no cure for autism, there are highly effective treatments that can ease some of its challenges. The earlier treatment begins, the better the child’s chances of reaching normal functioning levels. We can help autistic children improve:

  • Focus
  • Language Processing & Speech
  • Motor Planning & Functional Skills
  • Flexibility, Strength & Endurance
  • Self-Care/Self-Help
  • Interest in Others, Toys & Activities
  • Independence
  • Outbursts, Tantrums & Dangerous Behavior

Our physical and occupational therapists and speech/language pathologists are trained to work with children in:

  • Serial Casting
  • Upper & Lower Extremity Splinting
  • Neurodevelopmental Treatment
  • Early Intervention
  • School-Based Services
  • Augmentative Communication
  • Sensory Integration

Children also participate in and benefit from our aquatic therapy program. They have access to heated therapy pools at four of our seven locations. Ask about pediatric physical therapy services today.
